The Ridge Meadows Home Show returns May 3 to 5, and while “home show” is in the name, there’s good reason many know the popular event as “the everything show!”
As always, home improvement and innovation is at the heart of the show, but there’s also a whole lot more, including family activities, entertainment, carnival rides and food trucks.
Executive Director Graham Vanstone is at the helm of this eagerly anticipated event, promising an array of new attractions alongside traditional favourites.
“This year, we’re adding a few new things – an escape room, mini-golf and foam parties, to cater to all family members,” Vanstone shares with excitement, pointing to planned activities that provide a family-friendly festival experience.
The weekend also features special events like the Scouts’ box cart race on Saturday and a unique opportunity on Sunday for attendees to acquire as many used clothes as they want for just a $5 admission.
The show is renowned for its wide range of exhibitors and this year is no exception; 75 per cent of the spaces are already sold, with more than a third of those new exhibitors.
“We have a more diverse range of exhibitors than usual, from home furnishings to demonstrations in the booths and sample rooms,” Vanstone says, highlighting the event’s appeal to home renovation and decoration enthusiasts.
The exhibition is strategically organized into different buildings, each dedicated to specific aspects of home improvement and lifestyle features. Browse heavy-duty construction materials in Building A and wellness and food products in the Marketplace, before exploring the latest in flooring, tiles, baths and artwork in Building C. The layout ensures visitors can easily find what they’re looking for, whether it’s renovating materials or the latest in home decor.
The show is a platform for local institutions, community groups and businesses to connect with residents, Vanstone says, noting the carefully managed selection process for exhibitors that ensures a diverse yet balanced showcase.
“We bring the community together in a cost-effective way for local businesses to promote their services and products,” he says.
Volunteering since 1996, Vanstone is particularly proud of how the show has evolved and its enduring appeal. “We’re most looking forward to making it bigger and better, returning to pre-pandemic levels and inviting new people from the community,” he says.
“There’s something different every day, at different hours, so take your time,” Vanstone advises. “It’s a two- or three-hour adventure, or even a whole day with kids and grandparents.”
