A perk of the recent cold weather is that public skating rinks in the Columbia Shuswap Regional District were able to open.
The regional district announced Friday, Jan. 12, that the Farrell’s Field rink in Celista and the Parson rink near Golden were open for skating. The following Monday, it was announced the Silver Creek Community Park rink was also open.
The announcements came with the caveat that, depending on weather and ice conditions, any of the rinks may be closed without advanced notice. Closure may be prompted by rain, the temperature rising above 0 C and/or several consecutive nights when the temperature does not drop below -7 C.
“Due to staff availability and budget, the CSRD will not be posting all rink status updates on the website or social media,” said the CSRD. “Use the weather conditions in your area as a guide when deciding to head to an outdoor rink.”
