Summer is the perfect time to try something new at your Saanich recreation centres! Many summer programs offer shorter durations that fit into busy schedules and offer a taste of the experience before Fall registration.

TRX Suspension Training Workout Total-body strengthening in an innovative and fun format, easily modified for all fitness levels. Five sessions at Gordon Head Recreation Centre; Tuesdays, 5:45 to 6:45pm beginning July 2. Barcode 120207.

Strength and Speed Get faster and stronger using a variety of athletic training equipment and techniques. Five sessions at Gordon Head Recreation Centre; Wednesdays, 5:30 to 6:30pm beginning July 3. Barcode 115447.

Peak Performance Improve your daily and sport-specific movements using equipment like battle ropes, sandbags, kettlebells, dumbbells, and more. Five sessions at Gordon Head Recreation Centre; Tuesdays 6:15 to 7:15am beginning July 2. Barcode 115435.

Body Shop Improve muscle activation and endurance in this functional group fitness class focusing on technique, core stamina, agility, and flexibility. Seven sessions at Prospect Lake Community Hall; Mondays, 9 to 10am beginning July 8. Barcode 115963.

Body Works Build a better working body using equipment and bodyweight exercises that focus on form, core strength, balance and more. Four sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Sundays, 11:45am to 12:45pm beginning July 7. Barcode 115964.

Flex and Flow Stretch, strengthen and stabilize your entire body in an invigorating combination of yoga, Pilates, strength and flexibility exercises. Nine sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Wednesdays, 8 to 8:50am beginning July 3. Barcode 115968.

Full Body Workout (virtual) An eclectic mix of cardio, strength, balance, core, and stretch you can do from home with just a mat, dumbbells (optional) and yourself! Two four-session programs via Zoom; Sundays, 9 to 10am beginning July 7 and Aug. 4. Barcodes 115969 and 116000 respectively.

[OA] Boxing 50+ Learn boxing techniques and conditioning drills while getting a full-body workout that focuses on proper form and technique. Four sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Sundays, 8:15 to 9:15am beginning July 7. Barcode 115965.

[OA] Strength & Conditioning 50+ A variety of strength exercises and functional movements designed for active individuals. Five sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Tuesdays (barcode 116204) or Thursdays (116203) 2 to 3pm, beginning July 2 and 4, respectively.

[OA] Circuit Training Small Group 50yrs+ Improving cardio, strength and endurance for individuals who need to be active at their own pace. Four sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Mondays 10:15 to 11:15am beginning July 8. Barcode 116198.

[OA] Gentle Fit Simple, safe, and easy exercises ideal for new exercise routines or recovery from a movement restriction or illness. Primarily chair-based. Four sessions at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre; Tuesdays, 11:30am to 12:30pm beginning July 9. Barcode 116009.

[OA] Build Better Bones Build bone strength, improve fall prevention and reduce the risk of fractures through core strength, balance and posture exercises. Five sessions at Cedar Hill Recreation Centre; Wednesdays, 10:15 to 11:15am beginning July 3. Barcode 116030.

[OA] Aqua Strength and Stretch An aquatic combination of yoga, Pilates, strength and flexibility exercises that uses the resistance of the water to stretch, strengthen and stabilize your entire body. [OA] Aqua Zumba A low-impact, high-energy aquatic addition to any fitness routine. Enjoy the water’s natural resistance with less impact on your joints. Nine sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Wednesdays 7:15 to 8:15pm beginning July 3. Barcode 116540.

Mahjong – Beginner Learn Hong Kong Mahjong, a fascinating game of skill, strategy, and calculation that involves a degree of chance. Eight sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Wednesdays, 1 to 2:30pm beginning July 10. Barcode 114088.

[OA] Social Croquet 55+ Rekindle the joy of playing croquet with friends while getting some fresh air. No equipment or experience necessary. Five sessions at the Burnside Lawn Bowling Club; Wednesdays, 10 to 11:30 am, July 3 to 31 (barcode 114523) or Aug. 7 to Sept. 4 (114524).

Get creative!

The Art of Woodburning No experience is needed to join this introductory class in pyrography, or woodburning. Learn how to create beautiful pieces of art! Eight sessions at Saanich Commonwealth Place; Tuesdays from 3:15 to 4:45pm beginning July 9. Barcode 114131.

Art Programs at Cedar Hill Expand your artistic horizons in the five-session program, Drawing – Outdoor Sketching Intensive, Aug. 19 to 23 from 1 to 3:30pm, (barcode 116035), the two-day Painting – Colour Theory Workshop, Aug. 17 to18 from 10am to 2pm (116032), or the one-day Painting Workshop – Botanicals in Watercolour, July 20 from 10am to 3pm (115684).

Art Open Studio Enjoy independent work time in Cedar Hill’s bright painting studio, suitable for painting, drawing, printmaking and more. Registration is by blocks of 3.5 hours and includes a table, easel and storage.
