‘I feel so lucky:’ Lawyer sets down roots in Ucluelet

Craig Stewart feels fortunate his legal career has brought him to Vancouver Island’s west coast.
“I feel so lucky that I’ve landed in the Tofino and Ucluelet area,” he says. “The ocean changes every day, depending on the conditions. When I look at the ocean here, it humbles me and lets me reflect on what it is to be human.”
Stewart is the new Lead Attorney at the full-service CR Lawyers, which opened in Ucluelet Oct. 3. He’s joined in the office by Legal Assistant Belinda Mulvey and together they share a commitment to the law and their community.
“I am passionate about the law – it’s everywhere, and it’s an expression of what we want to see happen in society,” Stewart says.
Anyone who’s ever needed a lawyer knows the importance of having access quickly, whether for themselves or a loved one, and CR Lawyers is pleased to offer that service to west coast residents.
“We can look after wills and estates, business law, real estate transactions and whatever anybody needs, other than criminal law representation,” Stewart says. “The team we have at CR Lawyers brings different things to the table and is very collegial and supportive. Collectively, we have a pretty big brain. And we want to serve these communities,” Stewart says.
Peter Higgs, Lyle Carlstrom and Stewart Carstairs, Partners at CR Lawyers sought out Stewart, whose experience includes articling with Access Pro Bono in Vancouver. They understand the importance of having a full-service law office in the community.
“Given the types of legal services we provide, having that connection in person is so important – we can develop that relationship much easier than on a Zoom call,” Higgs says. “We want the Ucluelet and Tofino community to know they have the full support of lawyers who care and who are ready to represent them. We are proud of that,” Higgs explains.
“One thing I feel makes us unique is that we don’t feel we have to wear a suit and tie every day to be professional in what we do. We’re citizens of this community as well – we really pride ourselves on being relatable.”
Lawyers who love their job and want to serve you
“We all have a passion for the law, we’re good at what we do and we’re good to you in the process. Feel free to reach out to us as we’ll be there for you. It’s what we have been doing for decades and will always continue to do,” Higgs says.
