A new initiative is reshaping the landscape of senior care in Nanaimo.
Origin at Longwood, a stalwart in the senior living community for more than 15 years, is introducing ‘Origin at Home’ – a program dedicated to enhancing the lives of seniors living in the comfort of their own homes.
“Our vision is to help seniors maintain their independence longer in their own homes,” says Scott Young, Origin at Longwood’s Sales, Marketing, and Operations Manager. “We’re taking on tasks like groceries and other essentials, and aiming to alleviate the feeling of social isolation many seniors experience.”
The response from the community has been overwhelmingly positive, Young notes.
“Transitioning out of their home can be difficult for many seniors. We’ve seen how our services have allowed them to live their best lives, and their children are equally grateful.”
However, the journey hasn’t been without challenges. “As a new concept, raising awareness that such programming exists has been our biggest hurdle,” Young explains.
Origin at Home comes at a time when most senior communities, including Origin at Longwood, are at full capacity. The program seeks to extend the quality care and lifestyle offered at Origin at Longwood to more seniors in Nanaimo.
With facilities that resemble a resort, complete with a pool and spa, the community has been a sought-after destination for seniors seeking an active and fulfilling lifestyle.
A holistic approach to senior care, at home
The program, which officially started this fall, includes a range of services.
“We offer everything from fitness programs and fall prevention to engaging activities and healthy home maintenance,” Young says, noting the aim is to provide a holistic approach to senior care, promoting physical, mental and social well-being.
The team members of Origin at Home are carefully chosen to embody what Young describes as the ‘Origin DNA’ – a blend of skill, passion, and dedication to senior care. “Our team members graduate from the Origin Academy, ensuring the highest quality of service,” he says.
Origin at Home also grants seniors access to premium amenities at Origin at Longwood, bridging home and community-based living. This includes access to a movement studio, fitness studio, and a heated salt-water pool, among other facilities.
“We believe in empowering our seniors to lead vibrant, independent lives,” says Origin CEO and President Neil Prashad.
As the program unfolds, Origin at Longwood continues its tradition of community involvement. This includes inviting community members home for various events and organizing a craft fair in December, with proceeds going to local charities.
