Investing in your hearing health: How much do hearing aids cost?

One of the most common questions that Langley’s Kim Galick receives is, “How much do hearing aids cost?”
It’s a fair question, says the Registered Hearing Instrument Practitioner and owner of Ears Hearing Clinic, but the answer is a bit more complicated than many people realize.
“It’s understandable that one of the first questions we get asked when working with new clients is, ‘how much do they cost?’” Kim says. “What makes answering that question a little tricky are the individual factors that need to be considered before we can provide someone with a quote.”
Just like no two individuals have exactly the same eyeglass needs, a hearing aid prescription is also unique, and there is no one-size-fits-all option. When deciding which hearing aids are the right fit for you, it’s important to factor in the type and severity of your hearing loss, your lifestyle and your personal preferences for comfort, style and features.
“While some individuals might be happy with basic features, others may want to invest in a more technologically advanced set that offers more modern conveniences,” Kim says.
“Thinking about hearing aids as a long-term investment is another important consideration,” she adds. “Most hearing aids last for five to eight years, so while the upfront cost might be high, you’ll likely be enjoying your hearing aids for many years to come. So, investing in some additional conveniences or features to improve your comfort and experience is certainly worthwhile.”
On average, hearing aids cost between $2,500 and $5,000+ and are covered by some extended benefits. When you factor in the vital role they play in your mental, emotional and physical health, along with their longevity, it’s easier to see them as the practical and necessary pieces of medical equipment that they are.
Some individuals may also be eligible for support from provincial and/or federal programs.
