Passion for helping people drives Comox Valley lawyer

For more than 50 years, Swift Datoo has provided comprehensive legal services to the Comox Valley. Among the key figures at the full-service law firm is Rebecca Domovitch, who joined the firm in 2023.

Raised on Vancouver Island in Victoria, Domovitch’s journey into law began at Simon Fraser University where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Criminology. Her passion for law was further honed at the University of Ottawa, culminating in a Juris Doctor degree.

During her studies, Domovitch was actively involved at the University of Ottawa Community Legal Clinic, representing clients in low-level criminal cases, a role that significantly shaped her legal approach.

After being called to the British Columbia bar in 2017, Domovitch worked in Campbell River, specializing in Aboriginal Law before joining Swift Datoo in 2023. Today, her practice areas are diverse, including estate and incapacity planning, real estate and corporate law, showcasing her versatility and depth of knowledge.

“It’s an interesting job, I enjoy working with people,” she says.

What sets Swift Datoo apart, according to Domovitch, is not just its longstanding history or the comprehensive nature of its services, but also its deep integration into the fabric of the Comox Valley – many of their existing clients have been with Swift Datoo since the firm began. With a team of 12 lawyers and more than 20 support staff, that collective experience, paired with a focus on practical, effective and creative solutions, allows the firm to offer a wide scope of legal services, including banking and commercial financing, family law, wills, trusts and estate planning, real estate, litigation and more.

The firm is noted for its professional, yet friendly, approach, as highlighted by clients such as Daniel Sharratt and Alexandra Stephanson of Gladstone Brewing Co., who trust Swift Datoo with all their legal needs.

Beyond her professional responsibilities, Domovitch is committed to supporting her community – a passion supported by her Swift Datoo colleagues. From environmental causes and the arts, to recreation and LGBTQ rights, the local team supports various local and regional charities, contributing leadership and financial support, and offering pro bono services.
