Prepare to be spellbound by Sin City Illusions: Magic & Mystery

If you’ve ever watched one of those talent competition shows like America’s Got Talent (admit it, you have!), you know that the competitors who get all the accolades and the performance contracts are the musicians and singers.

But let’s be honest. The performers who get you on the edge of your seat and leave you completely stunned and amazed are the magicians and illusionists! After all, really great magicians keep you completely spellbound and leave you thoroughly perplexed and entertained.

Experience that first-hand at Victoria’s Royal Theatre Sept. 22 with Sin City Illusions’ Magic & Mystery, featuring two of Canada’s incredibly talented magicians who’ll mesmerize everyone in attendance.

Because Sin City Illusions presents magic shows intended for all ages, the event is a great opportunity to introduce kids to a brand of entertainment they’ll be talking about for weeks!

“One of our main goals is to provide world-class entertainment for families at an affordable price,” says Ken Pham, who oversees Sin City Illusions.

In fact, ticket prices are less than half the cost to attend an NHL game, for example, and discounted tickets are available for those 12 and younger.

Performing at Magic & Mystery are two highly respected magicians, Murray Hatfield and Paul Romhany.

Hatfield was named Canada’s Magician of the Year in 2006 and has performed on huge stages all over the world, including at the PNE. He’s entertained guests on cruise ships, in shows from Vegas to New York to New Orleans, and at the Magic Castle in Hollywood. He’s also appeared on the popular magic competition television series Fool Us with Penn & Teller.

Hatfield became interested in magic at the age of 10 after his mom hired a young magician to perform at his little brother’s birthday party. It led to a lifetime of performing, including 25 years with a major touring production called Magic ‘n’ Miracles, performing about 100 shows in 35 cities across Canada each year.

What really made it special, Hatfield says, “was that the show raised many millions of dollars for firefighter associations, firefighter burn funds, specialized hospital equipment and more.”

Those who attend Magic & Mystery will see Hatfield perform in a show that will be, as he says, “a night to remember. The audience will see everything from a magical game show and mind-reading with multiple spectators at the same time, to me and an audience member in a hilarious duel to the finish.”

But Murray Hatfield is just one of the thrilling magicians who’ll be at Magic & Mystery on Sept. 22. Paul Romhany is a world-class magician who’s performed for more than 20 years in large theatres, on luxury cruise liners, for the Royal Family of Monaco and in over 120 countries and on every continent.

A magician’s magician, Romhany is world-renowned as the editor of Vanish magazine, the world’s largest magazine for magicians. His creativity and imagination will show you magic like you’ve never seen before.

A native of New Zealand and a talented musician, Romhany has been described as one of the most creative, highly entertaining and innovative magic acts in the world today. In 2015, he was recognized in his home country with the highest award for any magician, the Grand Master of Magic. A member of the famed MAGIC CIRCLE in London, Paul mixes a combination of close-up magic, comedy and roleplaying to leave audiences spellbound and amazed.

What makes Romhany truly unique is his famous Charlie Chaplin magic act. It’s regarded as one of the most original and entertaining shows in magic today. Taking his illusionist skills to a different dimension, he applies makeup as the audience watches, suddenly leaving Paul Romhany behind and becoming Charlie Chaplin! He then proceeds, communicating in true silent movie mode, to take his audience to an extremely high level of fun and laughter.

“The Chaplin magic act is one of a kind, and I am sure most people have never seen anything like it!” Pham says.

And for Hatfield, “Paul Romhany answers the question, ‘What would happen if Charlie Chaplin was a magician?’”

Clearly, this evening of Magic & Mystery is an event you won’t want to miss! The fun begins at the Royal Theatre on Friday, Sept. 22 at 7:30 pm.
