Wetaskiwin eye care clinic welcomes a new owner

Change is in the air at Wetaskiwin’s Doctors Eyecare, but it’s the kind of change that also brings a comfortable continuity.

As Dr Bruce Johnson and Dr Lorrie Oliver step into retirement after 30 years of dedicated service, the torch is passed to a familiar face, Dr. Jay Whitehead, who’s been part of the clinic for more than a decade.

“We are deeply grateful to Dr. Johnson and Dr. Oliver for their nearly three decades of commitment to our community’s vision health,” says Dr. Whitehead, the new owner and manager.

“While they will be missed, we’re excited to build on their incredible legacy and continue to provide the same high level of care that our patients expect and deserve.”

Doctors Eyecare has long been a cornerstone of the Wetaskiwin community, offering comprehensive eye care services including full eye examinations, contact lens fittings and emergency care, as well as a dispensary stocked with a wide range of stylish and fashionable eyeglasses.

“Our community should know that although there’s a change in ownership, our doors remain wide open. We’re still the same clinic you’ve trusted over the years, dedicated to your eye health,” says the clinic’s marketing coordinator, Karla Whitehead.

The clinic is a proud supporter of local arts and charities, actively participating in events and fundraisers. “It’s about supporting those who support us,” Dr. Whitehead says.

Patients of Doctors Eyecare have often noted the personalized service they receive, something that Dr. Whitehead is eager to continue.

“What sets us apart is how we prioritize our patients. We’re here to respond to their needs, personalize the treatment each individual receives, and ensure everyone leaves feeling better than when they came in.”

The new ownership brings a fresh enthusiasm but the same familiar commitment to quality care. “We continue to welcome new patients to the clinic and extend a heartfelt thankyou to our established patients as we will continue to see you for all your visual and ocular health concerns.”

“Taking on the ownership role is certainly a challenge, but it’s one I embrace wholeheartedly. I’m committed to maintaining this clinic as a staple in Wetaskiwin for many years to come,” Dr. Whitehead says, reflecting on what motivates him in his work.

“It’s the relief and comfort I can bring to someone’s day. Whether it’s diagnosing an issue or simply providing reassurance, making a difference in someone’s health is profoundly rewarding.”

In parting, Dr. Whitehead extends his best wishes to the retiring founders: “We owe Dr. Johnson and Dr. Oliver a huge thank you for building such a supportive community around this clinic.”
